Jackson Madison County School System has an immediate opening for an Instructional Coach (Paid through Federal Funds) at the School Level. Candidates interested in this position require a certification from the State of Tennessee - Department of Education to be considered a qualified candidate. The position reports directly to its respective School Principal. Pay rate is based on a District Scale, approved by the District School Board and is commensurate with relevant education, experience and certifications.

Position Summary:

The Instructional Coach is responsible for assisting school leadership team efforts to improve the impact on student achievement through curriculum implementation, instructional framework implementation, data analysis, technical assistance, and Title I administration, while utilizing information gathered from classroom walk-throughs, teacher effectiveness data and student data to inform decisions on how to improve classroom instruction and student achievement, and providing development on the implementation of curriculum and the instructional framework to improve effectiveness.

Required Education / Certification / Endorsement:

  • B.A. or B.S. is required by the State of Tennessee;
  • Teacher's certificate with Qualifying Endorsement Area
  • At least three (3) years of effective classroom teaching experience

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in regularly scheduled district led meetings focused on the implementation of curriculum and the instructional framework and assist in the monitoring of the implementation of information gained from meetings and provide support to teachers by (but not limited to): conducting classroom walk-throughs, providing feedback to teachers through face-to-face coaching conversations, leading and participating in weekly planning sessions with teachers, leading and participating in after-school planning sessions with teachers, and modeling effective implementation of curriculum and the Instructional Framework
  • Compile data to inform instruction based on school level formative assessments and state level summative assessments and meets with individuals and/or teams to review data and make recommendations for future practice. Sources of data include (but not limited to): Common formative assessments (CFA), State mandated assessments, ACT, Graduation Rate, Discipline, and Benchmark assessments
  • Consistently monitor accurate implementation of all aspects of student progress
  • Conduct evaluation of the effectiveness of Title I Plan, along with the principal and other staff
  • Serve as a member of the Title I School Site Committee
  • Collect and compile statistical data as needed for accountability and program development
  • Work as a team player and continually learn
  • Effectively provide feedback to teachers based on classroom walk-throughs
  • Possess experience with data analysis and demonstrate the ability to solve problems with practical solutions
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be detail-orientated, self-motivated, able to multitask and function well under time constraints, and demonstrate flexibility, common sense, and good judgment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and/or assistance
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Be proficient in the use of computer applications such as Excel, Word, & PowerPoint
  • Use technology to effectively support the classroom instructional environment and as a communication for the school
  • Improve professional skills and knowledge, assume educational leadership roles, and perform duties in a professional, honest, and responsible manner
  • Assist with organization and implementation of the standardized testing program.

Expected Experience, Expertise and Ability:

  • Expertise in specialty field;
  • Ability to create a classroom environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;
  • Experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;
  • Experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to build positive and meaningful relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff;
  • Demonstrated skill in effective communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision making and time management.
