Jackson Madison County School System has an immediate opening for a Behavior Interventionist. Candidates interested in this position require a certification from the State of Tennessee - Department of Education to be considered a qualified candidate.  The position reports directly to its respective School Principal. Pay rate is based on a District Scale, approved by the District School Board and is commensurate with relevant education, experience and certifications.

Position Summary:

The Behavior Interventionist is responsible for providing support to administrators, teachers and other support staff in the following; monitoring, training in proper use of behavior management techniques, intervention strategies, coping skills and problem solving for students with behavior challenges.

 

Required Education / Certification / Endorsement:

  • B.A. or B.S. is required by the State of Tennessee;
  • Teacher's certificate with Qualifying Endorsement Area: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Counseling or Psychology is preferred
  • BCBA, BCaBA is preferred
  • A minimum of (3) three years of experience teaching special education or providing behavior services to students or adults and/or working with mental health issues and needs
  • Knowledge of the general needs and behavior of children diagnosed with adverse childhood experiences, serious emotional disturbance and other challenging behaviors
  • Understanding of basic crisis and behavioral interventions, including positive behavior intervention strategies and regulations and individual and classroom management technique

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support, monitoring, and training in using behavior management techniques, intervention strategies, coping skills and problem solving for students with behavior challenges
  • Communicate with parents and instructional staff regarding behavior needs of students
  • Track and report behavior data as requested
  • Participate and provide behavior training and in-service.
  • Assist in completing Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA's) and writing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP's)
  • Assist instructional personnel with the development of learning materials and reinforcement strategies according to student's BIP
  • Collect data and records student progress notes, maintains and organizes program notebooks and implements program modifications
  • Confer with instructional personnel and provide input regarding student progress
  • Administer and maintain data to share with instructional staff and district leaders
  • Assist instructional personnel and parents with behavior management of students
  • Monitor state and federal compliance for all students relative to disciplinary codes including in and out of school suspensions and alternative behavior interventions
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information
  • Participate in various activities (meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Expertise in specialty field;
  • Ability to create a classroom environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;
  • Experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;
  • Experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to build positive and meaningful relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff;
  • Demonstrated skill in effective communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision making and time management.
