TITLE: Bus Shop Foreman
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Fleet Maintenance
SUPERVISES: Bus Shop Employees
TERM: 12 months
JOB GOAL: To assist the Supervisor of Fleet Maintenance oversee the maintenance/service of the Jackson-Madison County vehicle fleet. This position's key role will be to assist in the supervision of all personnel that service and maintain vehicles owned by the district. To fulfil this role, the foreman will work with the supervisor of fleet maintenance and direct staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local vehicle safety code requirements; supervise and preform all mechanical work on the fleet; order, maintain, and write bids for all parts needed to service fleet vehicles; act as a liaison between various teams in the transportation department to insure vehicle performance safety; and serve as a technical advisor to drivers on mechanical issues and general bus operation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- Must have proven mechanical aptitude and extensive knowledge of diesel and gas vehicle maintenance systems
- Must communicate well with others, be courteous to building occupants, and work well with others.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in fleet maintenance, supervisory experience a plus
- Advanced knowledge of all school bus safety, vehicle codes and regulations
- Have a valid CDL with appropriate school transportation related indorsements
- Ability to develop short and long term plans for fleet maintenance and bus purchases
- Experience working with fleet operation vendors
- FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable
EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's
policy on evaluation of personnel.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in supervision of all personnel that maintain and service all district vehicles
- Work with the Supervisor of Fleet Maintenance and the Transportation Supervisor on all service staff hiring
- Assist in the Evaluation of all mechanics' work performance
- Assist in providing technical support to service personnel to complete and sign off on all service jobs
- Assist in Coordinating any mechanical work that has to be sent to outside shops
- Assist in Maintaining appropriate parts and equipment inventory to service the district fleet
- Assist in the Sign off that all work is complete and meets safety requirements as prescribed by federal, state, and local law/regulation
- Assist in Working with the Tennessee Highway Patrol to maintain vehicle safety inspection logs
- Assist in the Scheduling and maintaining mechanic work hours
- Assist in Receiving and delegating afterhours service calls to the appropriate mechanics
- Assist in Working with the bookkeeper to maintain inventory and POs for fleet service
- Assist providing technical expertise to the transportation administration team
