TITLE: Special Education Consulting Teacher

REPORTS TO: Leader of Special Education


TERM: 10 months, (210-Day Calendar), 7% Index, Exempt

JOB GOAL: To assist the Leader of Special Education in effectively assisting with the tasks of providing guidance in developing Individual Education Programs, achieving, and maintaining appropriate interventions, programs, and services for students in special education, supporting teachers of students with disabilities in effective instruction, and monitoring compliance with state and IDEA regulations.


  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience in classroom teaching students with disabilities
  • Professional teacher license with special education endorsement
  • FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.


  1. Provides direct service to classroom teachers.
  2. Works with teachers in their respective classrooms to improve the quality of instruction.
  3. Works with new teacher to ensure their success during the first few years of teaching.
  4. Observes teachers to determine ways to improve instruction.
  5. Demonstrates teaching techniques, skills, classroom management, and new concepts.
  6. Assists classroom teachers in selecting instruments for assessing students' needs.
  7. Provides follow-up for teachers who have participated in professional development activities to assure skills are implemented in the classroom.
  8. Assists classroom teachers in identifying learner needs and make recommendations to meet those needs based on student performance data.
  9. Assists teachers in making modification for identified student learning problems.
  10. Provides information to teachers both individually and through workshops on current research in education.
  11. Holds conferences with professional staff to enhance the quality of instruction.
  12. Plans and directs professional development for teachers.
  13. Assists in the evaluation of professional development activities.
  14. Recommends and orders curriculum materials.
  15. Maintains a daily log of activities and makes it available to appropriate persons.
  16. Makes referrals to other professional staff members.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Leader of Special Education.
