TITLE: Director of Basketball Operations/Head Boys Basketball Coach Jackson Central Merry Middle and High School
REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Director of Athletics
SUPERVISES: Basketball Coaching Staff - JCM Middle School and High School
TERM: 12 months
JOB GOAL: To provide effective leadership to the Jackson Central Merry 6-12 boys basketball program; To prepare student athletes in game strategies and techniques and prepare them for athletic competition. To motivate student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Assist in character building among the student population.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Tennessee teaching license [ACTIVE]
- Three to five years of successful coaching [head and/or assistant] experience
- Effective leadership, decision-making and verbal/written communication skills
- Displays interpersonal skills and professionalism
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the
- Assesses player's skills and assigns team
- Creates a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team
- Assigns duties to coaching staff as
- Coaches and develops players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the
- Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Determines game strategy based on the team's
- Establishes and maintains code of conduct and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
- Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their
- Follows TSSAA regulations governing the athletic program.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other
- Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the
- Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep
- Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
